Erin Pickens Announced as MC for Our Mississippi Honors Gala

    Our Mississippi magazine publisher Wesley Wells has announced that WAPT news anchor Erin Pickens will be the Mistress of Ceremonies for the 6th annual Our Mississippi Honors Gala.

    “We’re so excited to have Ms. Pickens join us,” Wells said. “She is such a talent and I’m sure will add a lot to this special event. I’ve worked with her before and she’s such a professional.”

    Erin Pickens is an award-winning journalist with more than two decades of experience in television news.  For 13 years, she was the morning and noon news anchor for WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi.  She is now the morning anchor for 16 WAPT News in Jackson. She has worked in television news in her hometown of Memphis, TN, in Greenville, MS, and in Jackson, TN.  Erin has worked both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

    Erin received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Memphis and a Master of Science in Communication from Mississippi College.  She is a professor at Tougaloo College in the Mass Communication department.  She is a member of Rho Lambda Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, where she served as president in 2011 and 2012.

    Erin is also a member of Junior League of Jackson and the LeFleur’s Bluff Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.  Erin was in the 2009-2010 class of Leadership Greater Jackson and was the 2014 Summer Reading Ambassador for the Jackson Public Schools district.  She is also listed in the inaugural and second editions of Who’s Who in Black Mississippi.

    The gala will be held on at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the BancorpSouth Conference Center in Tupelo. Renowned actor and singer Keith David will be the guest speaker. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ourmissmag.com or by calling (662) 844-2602.
