Tupelo, Mississippi – Our Mississippi magazine publisher Wesley Wells has announced that Emmy Award-winning actress Lynn Whitfield will be the guest speaker at the 2019 Our Mississippi Honors Gala. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the BancorpSouth Conference Center in Tupelo, MS.
“I’m am so excited that Ms. Whitfield has decided to be our speaker for this important event,” Wells said. “She is such an icon and I’m a longtime fan of hers, as I know many other Mississippians are. It’ll be an honor to have her here in our great state.”
Whitfield currently stars in the hit television series “Greenleaf” which airs of the Oprah Winfrey Network. She has a long distinguished television and movie career that spans decades and includes movie hits such as The Josephine Baker Story, A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Eve’s Bayou and Madea’s Family Reunion.”
She’s had such a great career and is still going strong,” Wells added. It’ll be great to recognize our honorees at the gala and have her speak to them and our audience.”
The event honors Mississippi corporations for their diversity and inclusion practices. Wells said the event also recognizes individuals Mississippians for their contributions to the state.
“We’re in our sixth year and we continue to grow,” Wells said. “Diversity and inclusion is such an important issue and we take pride in recognizing those businesses that recognize and practice that.”
