2026 Black History Month Tribute

Our Mississippi Foundation will host the 2026 Black History Month Tribute in Tupelo/Lee County. This year’s program features Rev. Wheeler Parker Jr., the last surviving witness to the kidnapping of Emmett Till, sharing a powerful message of history, resilience, and forward progress. The evening will also recognize outstanding past and present community leaders whose contributions continue to shape, strengthen, and inspire our region.
This year’s honorees include:
Vera Dukes, Minnie Leeper, J.D. Townsend, Robert Hereford, Jimmie Young, Jr., Susie Owens, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Cobb, Charles Richardson, James Ford, Dr. Walter Zuber, Sam Bell, Dr. Norris Crump, Deputy Chief Anthony Hill, Lillie Bell Johnson, and Walter Stanfield.
Their leadership, legacy, and dedication to community service continue to uplift Tupelo and Lee County, reminding us of the values that move our region forward.
This meaningful evening of remembrance and celebration is expected to sell out early. Early ticket purchases are strongly encouraged.
